Do It Yourself: How to Build a Cat Condo

People who are fond of cats are very much aware of what we call cat condo. It is also known as a cat

tree. The cat condo is more or less like an artificial set up where cats sleep, play and relax. Most of the cat trees have perches which are elevated and these cat trees serve multiple requirements of the cats.

The cats can also hide and sleep there. Some of the cat condos have hanging trees. The cats have the

tendency to find their own space in the house. The kittens which stay indoor have the same kind of

instincts. While they climb up to the cat condo, your kitty can perch and check out her surroundings and then she can also get away from other cats. The cat tree is a good idea to reduce the conflict between the cats because it would give them the space to escape. There are cat lovers who look for the best cat tree.

You can also plan for homemade cat furniture. No one knows your cat better than you do. You know

which place they like the most in the house or what is their favorite place to sleep. You can create a cat condo which is as per the fondness of your lovely cat. You can then make plans for homemade cat

trees. There are cats who love to take a nap on towels or any other soft fur-like material, so you can use such towels inside the condo.

The stylish décor is not just for humans, it can be for cats too. You can DIY cat furniture which it will love.

There is a difference between cat tree and cat condo. The cat condo can occupy more kittens inside.

Here are the steps to build your own cat condos-

1. Take a cardboard box which is large enough which can easily for your cat

2. Cut off the folds of the box, if you do not want to cut them off then fold the flaps inwards and stick

them with the glue

3. To give it an artistic look, you can either paint the box or cover it with the fabric.

• If you are using acrylic paint, try to use a wide paint brush. While you use this paint, you need to

paint it in layers. You can let each layer dry before another layer is applied.

• If you are doing the spray painting, we suggest that you do that in a well-ventilated area. The surface where you work must be covered with the newspapers so that the spray paint does not spoil the floor

• You can also choose to cover the box with the fabric. Make sure that the fabric which you use is

comfortable to the cat. You need to cut the fabric pieces as per the number of sides. The fabric should

be cut in such a way that it should cover each side of the box.

4. Putting a towel inside the box will make it more comfortable for your cat

5. Now you can place the cat condo where your cat will notice

Cats tend to love their private's space and they love dark places. You can also drape a curtain at the front. you can also make a cat condo using two similar sizes of the cardboard. This is how you can do it-

1. Get two boxes which are large enough so that your cat can fit inside

• Make sure that the boxes which you use are of the same size

• Shipping boxes are the perfect choice for this; else you can also buy similar boxes from the post

office or any art store

2. Draw a doorway through which the cat can go inside. The whiskers of the cat should not stick with

the doorway.

• Cats cannot go through anything where their whiskers stuck

3. Using the box cutter, cut out the doorway

• Some boxes are hard, use the self-healing cutting mat.

• After you cut the doorway out, make sure that you remove the pencil marks

4. Make sure that the top and bottom of the box are secured, using glue.

5. To the second box, add window

• The window should be smaller than the doorway

• After you have cut the window out, erase all the pencil marks

• Place a self-healing cutting mat inside the second box, if it is flat or unfolded.

6. Make sure that you keep the second box intact with the help of glue

7. Place the second box on the top of the first box and stick both the boxes with the help of glue using

the paintbrush

8. Draw the crawl hole in the second box with the help of a marker

9. Cut out the crawl hole, the hole needs to be big enough so that the cat can crawl over

10. Now you can paint the cat condo which you have made
